For the first time, in 2002 The United States Department of Energy (DOE), and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) held a competition for Universities to design, build, transport, and operate a fully functioning house, powered exclusively by solar energy. This competition was hosted on the National Mall in Washington DC, across from the National Air and Space Museum.

Acrylife is a proud sponsor of the Virginia Tech 2002 Solar House, for the 2002 Solar Decathlon. The students shared with us their imagination, and we provided them with an Acrylife System 3000 membrane to make their dreams a reality.
"The nice thing about designing within academia is that you are free to push the envelope and innovate. For this project we took on a very aggressive design that pushed the limits in terms of design, materials, and construction. A project like this changes the way people think about materials, and would not have been possible without the help of our sponsors."
